FERIA, EQUITA’S MAJOR SHOW IN 2023!
ANDALUSIAN, CAMARGUE AND GYPSY CULTURES HAVE BEEN TOGETHER IN LYON!
There was a very exciting atmosphere in the ring at Longines Equita Lyon and in the hearts of the public at Lyon-Eurexpo from 1 to 5 November ! For its 29th edition, the Salon du Cheval de Lyon and its Longines Equita Lyon, Concours Hippique International have once again allowed visitors to enjoy a journey through a rich equestrian culture: in 2023, the Feria show promised party-lovers two completely Mediterranean evenings, in sync with Iberian and Camargue horse troupes and the live music of the Gypsies Heritage.
AN EQUESTRIAN JOURNEY FROM SEVILLE TO MARSEILLE
It's a tradition firmly anchored in the identity of Longines Equita Lyon, Concours Hippique International. Each year, the Lyon event offers its public two exceptional evenings, Friday and Saturday, spent alongside the elite of international show jumping, and then, in the second half of the evening, discovering the world's rich equestrian heritage. The Sport & Spectacle evenings attract over 7,000 spectators per session. Presented on Friday November 3 following the Longines Grand Prix and on Saturday November 4 after the Equita Masters presented by Hermès Sellier, Feria, the original 2023 production, transported the Lyon-Eurexpo public to the heart of the Mediterranean festivities. On the dance floor, the Andalusian tradition was more alive than ever, thanks in particular to the tableaux presented by Denis Marques and his company. Artistic director of the Andalusian equestrian ballet Alma Vaquera, the rider presented a spectacular number of flaming garrochas, as well as the traditional carrousel of flamencas in croup. Every year in southern Spain, in a demonstration that has withstood the test of time, the vaqueros parade their beauties through the town. The flamencas dress up in their finest finery for the occasion, and the town is in full celebration! In France too, in the Camargue, Gard and Hérault, villages celebrate local equestrian art and age-old traditions. In Lyon, Benoît Soumille and the Caval Show troupe presented the work and living heritage of the gardians, through various tableaux, including the breathtaking horse-to-horse jump (the rider passes from one horse to another in a frenzied gallop) or by reproducing a roussataïo, a parade through the city of mares and their foals.
HERITAGE GYPSIES ON THE TRACK FOR THE FIRST TIME AT LONGINES EQUITA LYON
The public at the Longines Equita Lyon International Horse Show knows it well: Equita's major annual production likes to mix the arts, all the arts, and loves to thrill the stands at Lyon-Eurexpo to the sound of live music that sublimates the equestrian performances. After welcoming a number of major orchestras, including the Fanfare de la Cavalerie de la Garde républicaine, Equita 2023 brought out its guitars and offered a real equestrian concert, performed by the Gypsies Heritage. Six guitarists, a percussionist and a bassist took to the arena, surrounded by horses and riders, to showcase the repertoire of their illustrious forebears, as well as their own original creations. Les Gypsies Heritage, the children of Chico and the Gipsy Kings, follow in their fathers' footsteps, transporting the audience with every appearance on stage into an infectious whirlwind of joy and celebration. Lulled by gypsy music from an early age, these artists proudly interpret the hits of their elders and revisit the standards of the gypsy musical heritage. Djobi, djoba, Equiti, Equita - there's no doubt about it, for two evenings Feria had horses and spectators dancing !
