Equine Well-Being Day: Show my horse you care!

1 November 2024

Mediation at the heart of the discussions

On Thursday afternoon, the VIP Village at the Longines Equita Lyon Concours Hippique International hosted the fourth Equine Well-Being Day.

The aim of these days, which over the years have become a key feature of the event in Lyon, is to improve our understanding of horses and their needs and the solutions available to meet those needs.

During the conference-debate, numerous experts presented the latest advances in the field of equine well-being to an audience of around hundred people, including professionals but also many amateurs.

A new era: the discussions quickly focused on the need for dialogue between animal-rights associations and the equestrian sector, which campaign for the same cause, although they do not always see eye to eye.

Although there is now greater mediation, as highlighted by this Equine Well-Being Day, the professionals in the field note that the dialogue still needs reinforcing.

Open to all visitors to the Longines Equita Lyon, Concours Hippique International, this Equine Well-Being Day took a scientific and measured approach to equine well-being, thus working to gradually overcome preconceived ideas.

United behind the Equine Well-Being Committee at the initiative of GL events Equestrian Sport, the organiser of Longines Equita Lyon, the specialists in this field are committed to providing their expertise on a day-to-day basis through three major initiatives: informing the public, raising awareness among the sector's stakeholders and drawing up recommendations for institutions involved in equestrian issues.

In 2024, for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the position of Horse Welfare Coordinator was created for the first time at such a high level event.

This highlights how mediation around this key issue has proven highly effective.
