FEI Driving World CupTM presented by Laiterie de Montaigu - A great win for Dries Degrieck
The Belgian rider Dries Degrieck won the FEI World CupTM class presented by Laiterie de Montaigu on Saturday morning in the international arena at the Longines Equita Lyon, Concours Hippique International.
At just 29 years of age, Dries Degrieck is the youngest rider on the world carriage-driving circuit. But that has not stopped him from holding his own against his elders. Having often finished in the rankings at the FEI World Cup stage in Lyon, the 'Red Devil' won the opening class with his four horses, Hunter, Leon, Kane B and Big Star.
The class took place over two legs on the same circuit with 7 teams in the running. Dries Degrieck was in second place after his initial run with a time of 159''75, during which he knocked one bail over, but he then completed a clear second round, clocking the best time of the class in 150''39. With an overall time of 310"14, the Belgian driver finished ahead of Switzerland's Jérôme Voutaz, who was leading after the first leg but was a little slower in the second (312"40), and France's Benjamin Aillaud (317"46).

Dries Degrieck's reaction after his win: "I was really pleased with my horses today. It's my first World Cup event of the season, so I arrived here without really knowing where I was at compared to the others. I knocked over a bail during the first leg but then we did a great second round. Coming to Lyon is a real pleasure, the atmosphere is fantastic."
