THE LONGINES FEI JUMPING WORLD CUPTM : 9 RIDERS FROM THE WORLD TOP 12 EXPECTED IN LYON!

20 October 2021

The Longines FEI Jumping World Cup Western European League, a key event during the winter season, was launched last weekend in Oslo, Norway. From 27 to 31 October, the Longines Equita Lyon, Concours Hippique International, will play host to the second leg of the prestigious circuit, in which the world’s greatest riders compete, including nine of the twelve best riders in the current Longines World Rankings.

They have been patient, after a season in 2020 which was bleak, due to the lack of competitions throughout the winter. In 2021, the most prestigious indoor circuit is back: the best riders quite simply, are ready to participate in the Longines Equita Lyon, Concours Hippique International.

Nine of the twelve best riders in the world expected!

Germany’s Daniel Deusser, the current World number 2, is one of the leading names who wouldn’t have missed the leg in Lyon under any circumstances. He will be back in the same Eurexpo ring, where he won the Longines FEI World Cup Final in 2014 and the World CupTM leg two years later. Switzerland’s Martin Fuchs, another former winner, the titleholder after his two wins in a row in 2018 and 2019, European team gold and individual silver medallist, as well as the World individual silver medallist, will be accompanied by two renowned fellow countrymen:    the legendary Steve Guerdat, the World number 6, the 2012 Olympic Champion, the former (and future?) World number 1, and the young rising star, Bryan Balsinger, who everyone is keenly watching currently. Scotland's Scott Brash, who is also a former World number 1 and the 2012 Olympic team gold medallist, is also a formidable competitor who will undoubtedly be a force to be reckoned with.

The following riders will also be present between Rhône and Saône from 27 to 31 October: the current World number 5, Brazil’s Marlon Modolo Zanotelli, the Olympic team gold medallist with Sweden, the World team silver medallist and the 8th rider in the Longines Rankings, Henrik von Eckermann, Belgium’s Jérôme Guery, the team bronze medallist in Tokyo with the Belgian team and the tenth best rider in the world and France’s Kevin Staut (World number 11) and Julien Epaillard (World number 12). America’s Jessica Springsteen, the Olympic team silver medallist who narrowly missed winning in Lyon in 2019, and the GL events’ partner rider, Loire’s Olivier Perreau, the recent winner of the Hubside Jumping de Valence’s 5* Grand Prix, can also be added to this prestigious list.
