THE MAESTRO LORENZO RETURNS TO LONGINES EQUITA LYON, CONCOURS HIPPIQUE INTERNATIONAL’S BIG RING

25 October 2022

“LA MAESTRIA”: AN ODE TO VAULTING AND LIBERTY WORK

ON FRIDAY 28 AND SATURDAY 29 OCTOBER 202

Every year, Longines Equita Lyon, Concours Hippique International’s ‘Sport and Show’ evenings provide Lyon-Eurexpo's spectators with a programme featuring the world elite. Following a 5* show jumping class (The Longines Grand Prix, on Friday 28 October, and The Equita Masters presented by Hermès Sellier, on Saturday 29 October), the public will be able to discover the best in equestrian shows. This year, ‘La Maestria’ will boast equestrian vaulting and liberty work and give its finest ambassadors pride of place. Lorenzo, the highly-sought-after ‘flying rider’, will be the headline act of this new creation, and will perform two numbers. The first one, which made him an international success, has been rethought: riding two horses while standing upright with a horse under each foot, he also controls other horses whose number increases as his performance progresses, and jumps fences with incredible ease, in the lightest manner. The very close bond he shares with his mares is plain for all to see throughout his amazing routine. In the second number, Lorenzo demonstrates a more intimate, less well-known side of his work, revealing all of his skill to spectators: carrying out liberty work with his group of horses.  Here his performance is well-known less athletic, the fences in the ring have been replaced by an exchange between man and horse without any tack whatsoever, in the middle of his group of horses. The rider controls about fifteen horses, both on horseback and on foot in the middle of the ring, in a highly emotional and poetic performance, with just his voice and his perfect understanding of the natural behaviour of a group of horses. Lorenzo who is a vaulter, a trainer and an ethologist, was keen to be actively involved in the line-up of ‘La Maestria’, personally deciding which artists would perform alongside him. Although the performer from Camargue wishes to keep the names of most of  his guest artists secret, he nevertheless announced that he will be accompanied by another master of vaulting: Nicolas Andréani.
