Uschi Jau and PL Supermagnetica win the Amateur Ranch-Trail class of the Equita Greatest Ranch Horse competition
The Swiss rider Uschi Jau is back at Equita Lyon after a long absence, and it was the fact that ranch-riding events were being organised this year that drew her back. "I decided to specialise in ranch riding because I like working with all 3 gaits, backing up, moving sideways, , and so on. The manoeuvres are different from those in reining".
Uschi went on to tell us about her new mare PL Supermagnetica: "I bought her from Grisha Ludwig, a German reining trainer, but I immediately saw that the way she moved would be perfect for ranch riding. It's really difficult to find a good ranch horse, because in addition to all the gaits, it really has to listen to the rider. We can't teach the horse everything, because we face different obstacles at each competition, so the horse has to rely on us to performwell".
Uschi Jau and PL Supermagnetica were recently crowned European Amateur Trail Champions and won the combined Ranch-Trail class in the Equita Greatest Ranch Horse event today. Will they manage to become the overall champions of this 100% Ranch challenge created by Equita Lyon in the Amateur category? We will find out tomorrow in the Wyoming arena!
